Johann Sebastian Bach

Johann Sebastian Bach’s monumental Mass in B Minor will be performed in Fort Lauderdale, Coral Gables and Boca Raton by Seraphic Fire, providing the opportunity to hear a first-class choir in one of the greatest sacred works of Western music. The B Minor Mass, one of Bach’s last works, surveys a vast terrain that reaches from the searching harmonies of the Crucifixus to the jubilant sounds of the Gloria, with vocal solos, duets and the grandeur of the massed choir.

Leading the performance will be not only Patrick Dupré Quigley, the choir’s artistic director, but also Scott Allen Jarrett, music director of Boston University’s Marsh Chapel and a specialist in Bach’s choral music. Accompanying the Grammy nominated choir will be the Firebird Chamber Orchestra.

Seraphic Fire performs Bach’s B Minor Mass 7:30 p.m. Friday at All Saints Episcopal Church in Fort Lauderdale, 8 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Coral Gables; and 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church in Boca Raton. Note: The Fort Lauderdale performance is already sold out.  seraphicfire.org, 305-285-9060.
