Festival Miami, the traditional opening of the South Florida music season, will run this year from October 4 through November 4. As in recent seasons, the University of Miami Frost School of Music series will offer jazz, Broadway music and Latin pop on its schedule along with classical.

The opening-night concert by the Frost Symphony Orchestra will feature music director Thomas Sleeper sharing podium duties with guest conductor Leon Fleisher in a program of Beethoven and Rachmaninoff. Fleisher will also offer a master class on October 2.

The Frost Wind Ensemble will premiere new works by Jennifer Higdon and Paul Dooley Oct. 7, and there will be recitals by soprano Ana Maria Martinez and pianist Santiago Rodriguez. The festival will close Nov. 4 with Karen Kennedy conducting the Master Chorale of South Florida and Frost choral and orchestral students in Orff’s Carmina Burana. 305-284-4940; festivalmiami.com.
