Critic’s Choice

By Lawrence Budmen

Stephen Hough is one of the most technically assured, musically intelligent artists on the contemporary concert stage. The British pianist returns to Miami’s Friends of Chamber Music for a concerto program Friday night on the Florida International University campus. Mixing classicism with bravura, he will perform both Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 (“Emperor”) and Liszt’s Concerto No. 1 with the FIU Symphony Orchestra under the direction of former Florida Philharmonic Orchestra conductor James Judd.

The concert is 8 p.m. Friday at Florida International University’s Wertheim Auditorium. miamichambermusic.orgwpac.fiu.edu.
