Seraphic Fire’s program “A Single Rose: Modernism in the Americas” takes its theme from Chansons de Rosas (Rose Songs), a cycle by composer Morten Lauridsen based on poems of Rainer Maria Rilke. An exploration of modernism in choral music from both hemispheres of the Americas, the concert also features works by Brazil’s Heitor Villa-Lobos and Argentina’s Alberto Ginastera.

Julian Wachner, music director of the chorale and concert series at New York’s venerable Trinity Wall Street, is guest conductor and pianist for this program. It will be interesting to hear how different the choir sounds under his direction than under artistic director Patrick Quigley. Wachner has also programmed some of his own compositions.

The program takes place 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Miami, 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. Philips Episcopal Church in Coral Gables, 8 p.m. Saturday at All Saints Episcopal Church in Ft. Lauderdale and 4 p.m. Sunday at All Souls Episcopal Church in Miami Beach. seraphicfire.org; 305-285-9060.
