Duo Yoo + Kim

Duo Yoo + Kim

Most classical performances in South Florida focus on music of the past. But for an evening devoted to the classical present–alongside a nod to J.S. Bach–you can attend a concert Sunday of Dranoff International 2 Piano Foundation presented with the contemporary chamber orchestra Nu Deco Ensemble.

The winners of the last Dranoff 2 Piano Competition, pianists Yoon-Jee Kim and Jackie Jaekyung Yoo, who perform as Duo Yoo + Kim, will play the contemporary Swedish composer Fredrik Sixten’s Concerto for Two Pianos, which was given its world premiere in New York last year.

Also on the program will be two works by Nu Deco co-founder Sam Hyken, an arrangement of Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D Minor and a two-piano tribute to Frank Zappa, the late rock guitarist who early in life developed a taste for contemporary classical music. There will also be a work by Zappa, as well as compositions by Radiohead, Steve Reich and Jessie Montgomery. The concert will be performed 7:30 p.m. Sunday at New World Center in Miami Beach. nws.edu; 305-673-3331.
