Critic’s Choice

By Lawrence Budmen

Jeremy Denk is one of the most technically assured, artistically rigorous pianists on the contemporary concert scene. His performances combine a modernist sensibility with probing musical intellect.

Denk returns to the Arsht Center classical series Saturday night to play Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 12 and Benjamin Britten’s Young Apollo with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. The venerable London-based chamber orchestra offers three concert rarities: Albinoni’s Concerto No. 5, C.P.E. Bach’s Symphony in E and Haydn’s Symphony No. 44 (“Trauer”). This offbeat program is definitely one of the most interesting offerings in the entire South Florida music season.

Jeremy Denk and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields perform 8 p.m. Saturday at the Arsht Center in Miami.  arshtcenter.org305-949-6722
