Gergiev, Perlman on tap in Arsht Center’s 2021 season

By Lawrence A. Johnson

Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra will perform in Miami February 6, 2021

Two of the world’s great orchestras and South Florida’s most overexposed violinist will be on tap in the Arsht Center’s 2020-2021 season.

With the Miami performing arts center still closed in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, all four events in the Knight Masterworks Classical Music Series will take place in 2021.

Valery Gergiev will bring his Mariinsky Orchestra to Miami for their Arsht Center debut February 6. The meaty program offers Schubert’s Unfinished symphony and Bruckner’s Symphony No. 8.

The Philadelphia Orchestra returns to Florida on February 18. Led by Sir Andrew Davis, the program offers Mozart’s Symphony No. 39, Brahms’ Symphony No. 2, and Weber’s Overture to Oberon.

The two front-line ensembles are flanked by the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra led by Pavel Kogan January 16 with violinist Blake Pouliot (Prokofiev, Bruch and Tchaikovsky) and the inevitable Itzhak Perlman recital on March 7, next year marking his 75th birthday season.

Subscriptions are on sale now and start at $182. arshtcenter.org
