Deborah Voigt

Florida Grand Opera will open its 2013-14 season with a glitzy tribute to Deborah Voigt October 26 at the Dupont Building in Miami.

The soprano. who made her company debut in 1996 in Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos and last appeared with FGO in a 2001 Tosca, will be feted in an event titled “Smoke & Mirrors: A Black Tie Celebration of International Opera Star Deborah Voigt.”

“We are delighted to begin our tradition of lifetime achievement awards by honoring Ms. Voigt, who is not only one of opera’s all-time greats, but also has a strong history with the company,” said Susan Danis, CEO and general director in a statement released by the company. “I cannot think of a better way to start our new season.”

While Voigt is not scheduled to sing herself, there will be performances by the FGO Young Artists. fgo.org

The best thing about this announcement is that Voigt isn’t scheduled to sing.

Very funny. Congrats to Ms. Voigt. Well deserved tribute to one of the best reasons to go to an opera.
