South Florida Classical Review

The two South Florida classical ensembles with the highest national stature will combine forces Saturday in Miami Beach for a concert that will span four centuries of music.

The New World Symphony and the choral group Seraphic Fire will perform a joint concert at New World Center under the direction of Seraphic Fire’s founder, Patrick Dupré Quigley. The largest work on the program will be Steve Reich’s The Desert Music, a 1983 setting of poems by William Carlos Williams for voices and orchestra. Also on the program is Monteverdi’s psalm setting Beatus Vir and two works by Ligeti, Adventures, , famously used in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey, and New Adventures.
