Entremont to replace Platt as Boca Symphonia conductor

By David Fleshler

The internationally known pianist and conductor Philippe Entremont will become principal conductor of the Boca Raton Symphonia, replacing Alexander Platt.

Entremont has been music director of the New Orleans Philharmonic Orchestra and Denver Symphony, as well as principal guest conductor of the Munich Symphony Orchestra, which he led on three U.S. tours. Of more relevance to the compact Boca ensemble, he has been principal conductor of several chamber orchestras, including the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and the Israel Chamber Orchestra.

Marshall Turkin, the Boca ensemble’s president, said Entremont will conduct three of next year’s five concerts, with Platt also conducting one. He described the hiring of Entremont as a coup for the Boca group.“Number one, he’s a specialist in chamber orchestras,” he said. “Number two, he brings great dignity to us as one of the most recorded artists of all time, as a pianist. He brings a wealth of experience, a wealth of prestige and a wealth of knowledge
