Summerfest to feature premiere with the Mission Chamber Orchestra

By Lawrence A. Johnson

Lorenzo Turchi-Floris will premiere his "Tarantango" for piano and orchestra with the Mission Chamber Orchestra at Summerfest concerts.

Conductor James Brooks-Bruzzese will once again provide some musical relief in South Florida’s barren summer months with his annual Summerfest tour with a European chamber orchestra.

This year’s string ensemble is the Mission Chamber Orchestra of Rome, which Brooks-Bruzzese will lead in wide-ranging programs throughout South Florida including a Broward Center performance on July 27.

The tour will present the world premiere of Tarantango, a work for piano and orchestra by Lorenzo Turchi-Floris, which will feature the composer as soloist. Also Marilyn Maingart, principal flutist of Symphony of the Americas, will perform her own flute arrangement of Saint-Saens’ violin showpiece, Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso.

The concert will also include works by Corelli and C.P.E. Bach, Hubert Parry’s English Suite, Borodin’s Nocturne and Mendelssohn’s String Symphony No. 10.
