Met principal trumpet to join Firebird Chamber Orchestra for Bach program

By Lawrence Budmen

Billy Hunter, principal trumpet of the Metropolitan Opera, will join soprano Kathryn Mueller in performances of J.S. Bach’s Jauchzet Gott in Allen Landen, a showpiece for soprano and trumpet, at the Firebird Chamber Orchestra’s March program.

“We have an exciting artistic triumph,” said Seraphic Fire artistic director Patrick Quigley in a released statement. “It is an honor that Seraphic Fire will play host to this musical alchemy.”

Mueller, a finalist in Early Music America’s Baroque Performance Competition, has sung with such distinguished early music groups as American Bach Soloists, Washington Bach Consort and the Carmel Bach Festival. She is featured on Seraphic Fire’s recording of Monteverdi’s Vespers, which reached the top of the iTunes classical chart.

Hunter, an alumnus of Miami’s New World Symphony, is assistant principal trumpet of Chicago’s Grant Park Orchestra in addition to his first chair position at the Met. He has played with the Spoleto Festival Orchestra and has appeared as soloist with orchestras and chamber music groups throughout the United States.

The Firebird Chamber Orchestra’s Bach programs will take place March 20-24, 2013 in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton. seraphicfire.org
