Master Chorale names new artistic director
Brett Karlin will be the new artistic director and conductor of the Master Chorale of South Florida effective June 1.
“I am humbled to be selected as the new artistic director.” said Karlin, 26, in a statement released by the Chorale. “Words fail to describe how excited I am to work with the Master Chorale of South Florida. This is an extraordinary opportunity, and I look forward to working diligently to create the most meaningful and artistically fulfilling experiences for our audiences and singers.”
A Palm Beach County native, Karlin currently serves as director of choral studies at Hillsborough Community College as well as assistant conductor of The Master Chorale of Tampa Bay.
Karlin held the position of assistant conductor of Seraphic Fire and the Firebird Chamber Orchestra in 2009-2010, during which he assisted with the artistic production of Seraphic Fire’s 2012 Grammy Award-nominated CD, A Seraphic Fire Christmas.
Karlin will be the Master Chorale’s third conductor in as many seasons. Joshua Habermann left the ensemble in 2011 and Karen Kennedy departed the Chorale last August after just one season.
