New York Classical Review to launch in September

By Lawrence A. Johnson

I am very happy to announce that we will mark our fifth anniversary year by launching New York Classical Review this September.

New York Classical Review (, our fifth music website, will cover the city with the largest and most active classical scene in the country with the same candor, independence and smart, lively writing that have featured on our other regional sites in Boston, Chicago and South Florida. As elsewhere, the major local organizations (the Metropolitan Opera, New York Philharmonic, Carnegie Hall) will be reviewed but we will also actively seek out the offbeat and the unusual, with an emphasis on contemporary music and rarely heard repertory.

New Yorkers are not shy about voicing their opinions and we encourage lively debate and welcome comments, conversation and suggestions about NYCR articles and reviews.

New York Classical Review requires advertising support to fulfill its mission. We are currently offering generous bonus ad weeks on our national site, The Classical Review, for those who purchase season advertising on the new New York site. (For details, email [email protected].)

As with our other sites, all New York events will originate on NYCR, and those of broader interest will also find their way onto The Classical Review. TCR itself, which has served as a kind of de facto New York site, will recommit this fall to its original mission as our national flagship, with a greater emphasis on covering premieres and unusual repertoire in areas around the country not served by our regional sites.

All organizations in New York and beyond that would like to be considered for coverage and calendar listings, should email me at [email protected].

See you in September.
