Nadine Sierra shares top prize at Neue Stimmen Competition
Fort Lauderdale native Nadine Sierra shared First Prize at the prestigious Neue Stimmen (New Voices) competition in Gütersloh, Germany over the weekend, a televised event that bills itself as the world’s largest (classical) vocal competition.
The fast-rising soprano split the top award with Australian Nicole Car. Sierra also won the competition’s People’s Choice Award. In an all-soprano sweep, Russian Kristina Mkhitaryan took third prize.
In the men’s division tenor Myong-Hyun Lee from South Korea won first prize with Moldovian bass Oleg Tibulco and Russian baritone Oleksandr Kyreiev taking second- and third-place prizes respectively.
Sierra’s burgeoning career has included acclaimed performances in Orfeo et Euridice at Palm Beach Opera in 2011 and last year as Gilda in Florida Grand Opera’s Rigoletto. The former San Francisco Opera Adler Fellow will repeat the latter role at Boston Lyric Opera’s Rigoletto in March.
