After playing dark and intense symphonies by Shostakovich and Mahler at previous concerts, the Cleveland Orchestra turns to a populist blockbuster for the final program of this season’s Miami residency.

On Thursday, the Clevelanders play the first of three performances of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana at the Arsht Center. While Orff’s cantata can hardly be considered subtle, the score remains a rousing setting of Medieval poems about lust, gluttony and the arrival of spring.

The Cleveland Orchestra Chorus joins the ensemble in Miami for the first time. Soprano and Fort Lauderdale native Nadine Sierra, who makes her Metropolitan Opera debut in Rigoletto next season, joins countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo and baritone Stephen Powell in the vocal solos. The program opens with the Chichester Psalms, Leonard Bernstein’s melding of spiritual reverence and showbiz flair. Giancarlo Guerrero conducts.
