Guerrero out of Cleveland Orchestra Miami post in 2016
The Cleveland Orchestra has announced that Giancarlo Guerrero’s contract as principal guest conductor of the ensemble’s Miami residency will not be renewed after the 2015-16 season. Guerrero is currently music director of the Nashville Symphony.
The Cleveland Orchestra’s management stated that with the expansion of the annual residency, Guerrero’s conducting schedule is too full to devote an expanded amount of time to performances and outreach activities in South Florida. He will continue to appear as guest conductor in future seasons but will not be replaced in the titled position.
Orchestra sources also indicated that Cleveland’s music director Franz Welser-Möst will have an expanded presence in Miami, at least through the 2016-17 season.
