Friends of Chamber Music to mark 60 years with Beethoven and Borodin

In its 60th anniversary season, Friends of Chamber Music of Miami will offer a cycle of Beethoven piano trios, a recital with a fast-rising Metropolitan Opera tenor and the return of a celebrated Russian quartet after many years.
The storied Borodin Quartet will open FOCM’s 2015-16 season October 13 with a program of Borodin, Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich. The Ehnes Quartet follows with an all-Beethoven program November 16.
The Brentano Quartet will be joined by violist Roberto Diaz December 15, for a program that will include Mendelssohn’s String Quintet.
On January 15 Stephen Hough will perform piano concertos by Beethoven and Liszt with the FIU Symphony Orchestra conducted by James Judd. Pianist Benjamin Grosvenor plays a recital of Mendelssohn, Chopin and Ravel January 17.
The Kalichstein Laredo Robinson Trio will present a three-night cycle of Beethoven’s complete piano trios February 12-14.
Tenor Paul Appleby, who starred in the U.S. premiere of Nico Muhly’s Two Boys in 2013 at the Metropolitan Opera, will make his Florida debut in a recital April 13 with pianist Ken Noda. The season will close March 21 with pianist Nikolai Lugansky playing Beethoven, Albeniz and Rachmaninoff.
The performances will be split between FOCM’s two usual venues, Coral Gables Congregational Church and UM’s Gusman Concert Hall.
