The Adrienne Arsht Center will offer four classical events in the 2016-17 season, with three visiting orchestras and a recital by one of classical music’s reigning superstars.

The John S. and James L. Knight Masterworks series opens January 10, 2017 with the esteemed Minnesota Orchestra led by music director Osmo Vänskä. The conductor will lead a performance of the Symphony No. 5 by Sibelius, the Finnish composer for which Vänskä is internationally renown as an interpreter. The program also includes Geija by contemporary Finnish composer Kalevi Aho and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1.

Christoph Eschenbach and the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra come to Miami on February 11. The program features standard repertory with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3, Mozart’s Don Giovanni Overture and Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 with soloist Ray Chen.

Piano celebrity Lang Lang returns to Miami February 25 with a program TBA. And on March 18 the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields presents a program featuring Copland’s Quiet City, Mozart’s Symphony No. 29, and pianist Inon Barnatan as soloist in Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 9 as well as a newly commissioned piano concerto by Alasdair Nicolson.
