The combination of Michael Tilson Thomas and Mahler is one of the music world’s best tickets. The New World Symphony’s artistic director leads the ensemble Saturday and Sunday in Mahler’s Symphony No. 5. That massive score will be paired with the most frequently performed violin concerto in the repertoire – Mendelssohn’s Concerto in E minor. Christian Tetzlaff, one of the most brilliant and musically imaginative artists performing today, will be the soloist.

The superb chamber choir Seraphic Fire officially celebrates its 15th anniversary this week with a program that traverses the group’s repertoire from new music to Renaissance, romantic and 20th-century works. Patrick Quigley conducts two premieres commissioned for the anniversary season by Miami-based composers Shawn Crouch and Alvaro Bermudez, along with music by Tomás de Victoria, Brahms and Herbert Howells.
Performances are 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Miami; 7 p.m. Thursday at Bower Chapel in Naples; 7:30 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Coral Gables; 7:30 p.m. Saturday at All Saints Episcopal Church in Ft.
