The combination of Michael Tilson Thomas and Mahler is one of the music world’s best tickets. The New World Symphony’s artistic director leads the ensemble Saturday and Sunday in Mahler’s Symphony No. 5. That massive score will be paired with the most frequently performed violin concerto in the repertoire – Mendelssohn’s Concerto in E minor. Christian Tetzlaff, one of the most brilliant and musically imaginative artists performing today, will be the soloist.

Performances are 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the New World Center in Miami Beach. The Saturday performance is sold out but there will be a Wallcast in SoundScape Park outside the concert hall.  nws.edu;  305-673-3331.
