The Ehnes Quartet‘s continuing Beethoven cycle for Miami’s Friends of Chamber Music has produced some of the most memorable concerts of recent seasons. Violin virtuoso James Ehnes returns Thursday with his top-drawer colleagues (violinist Amy Schwartz Moretti, violist Richard O’Neill and cellist Edward Arron) for an exceptionally intriguing program at Gusman Hall in Coral Gables.

Beethoven’s early String Quintet in C Major, Op. 29 is paired with the String Quartet No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 131, one of his last great masterpieces. The high-spirited quintet is infrequently played because it requires an extra viola. The Ehnes foursome will be joined by Roberto Díaz, president of the Curtis Institute of Music and former principal viola of the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Friends of Chamber Music presents the Ehnes Quartet with Roberto Díaz 8 p.m. Thursday at UM Gusman Hall in Coral Gables. miamichambermusic.org
