Despite uncertainty about its future in Miami, the Cleveland Orchestra announced Thursday that it will return to the Arsht Center in 2019.

As this current season, the orchestra will perform just two consecutive weeks of concerts, having cut its Miami commitment in half from a peak of four weeks previously.

On January 25 and 26 2019, Franz Welser-Möst will lead the Cleveland Orchestra and Chorus in Mahler’s “Resurrection” Symphony (No. 2). Soloists are soprano Joélle Harvey and mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke.

The February 1 and 2 concerts will be conducted by soprano Barbara Hannigan, who has been transitioning into a podium career in recent seasons. She will appear in both roles in an offbeat program: Sibelius’s Luonnotar, Haydn’s Symphony No. 86, suites from Berg’s Lulu and Gershwin’s Girl Crazy, and Debussy’s Syrinx with principal flute Joshua Smith as soloist.
