Friends of Chamber Music to continue after Kreeger passing
In the wake of the death of Julian Kreeger, longtime president and guiding light of Friends of Chamber Music of Miami, the Kreeger family has announced that the long-running concert series will continue.
In an email sent out Thanksgiving Day, sons Daniel and Abram Kreeger stated that “Even as [Julian Kreeger] was bedbound, he vehemently insisted that FOCM continue to produce the concerts, and implored us to take our special musical guests out to dinners afterward…. So we wanted to let you know that his passion and the legacy of his 38+ years as the president of Friends of Chamber Music will be continued.”
A transition committee has been formed with Daniel Kreeger serving as interim board president. Abram Kreeger and clarinetist Alexander Fiterstein—a longtime friend and regular on the series—will serve as interim artistic directors
Also a memorial concert for Julian will be added to the FOCM lineup at the end of the season with details to come.
The next event in the FOCM concert series will be pianist Stephen Hough 8 p.m. January 27, 2025. The program includes Liszt’s Sonata for Piano in B minor, Chopin’s Sonata No. 3 in B minor, and music of Cecile Chaminade. miamichambermusic.org
